Why do you demonstrate O How I Love Jesus in Db when the song is written in Ab. Since this is for beginners, why not in the key of F.

      Michael,

Great observation! You're right, Ab is a very common key. There was no rhyme or reason for choosing Db(C#). Like Ab, I believe Db(C#) is an easy key to learn for finger and hand positioning. After all, the only difference between the two keys is that the G in the key of Ab becomes an F# in the key of Db(C#). I will be demonstrating other keys as well as I continue with my video lessons.

Keep hitting me up with sugguestions. That's the only way we learn...from each other.

      Thanks,

I am a saxophone and flutist by trade but I have been playing piano for about 5 years myself. I have also been playing bass for about 3 years. As long as you stay focused, you can cut the time it takes for things to start getting easy.

      Joseph,

Fun is certainly one of the main factors to success in music. As humans, we tend to NOT do those things that don't provide some immediate fullfillment, but if we make music fun for ourselves, it helps us stay consistent and focused on the task.

Letron, you are such a blessing and I am so grateful for your help. So glad the Lord put people on this earth like you. You have made music such an enjoyable thing to pick-up again. I love this so much that I am practicing 6 1/2 hours in the morning and 3 1/2 hours at night. I have learned so much in these 2 months. Please tell me, is doing this kind of perfect practice 6 days a week to much? Your expertise advice is something that I take to heart greatly. Thank you for resurrecting that desire that was taken from me long ago concerning the piano. What you have to offer on your website is awesome and I'm not going to stop until I purchase what I need...

I would say some of the best advice that was given to me is to listen to other people that play the organ the way you like to hear it. Then try to emulate them. The organ is truly a "BEAST" because you have a heck of a job trying nto coordinate boths hands AND your feet. The coordination hurdle can be beat with consistent practice. Play along with cds as MUCH as possible and train your ear to hear the bass and chords until you start becoming comfortable with it. If you do this for 6months to a year CONSISTENTLY, you will see a drastic improvement in your playing. Please keep in touch and let me know how you are doing.

John, the thing to do is to keep practicing. And when you have stop practicing, then practice some more. Get on a good schedule and do all you can to stick with it. Prayer is definitely a tremendous help, too!!! Keep doing the scales in all the keys. Get to where you can play them with your eyes closed and with the metronome. Never give up John, never!!!
Keep at it, the Lord will help you...

Letron, I also play the guitar and have done so for some years now,but the piano was my first love. When I hear things in music, because I'm just starting for almost 3 months I see the chords on the guitar while sitting at the piano. It has helped me to grow faster but the concept is so different in its presentation of different instruments. However, since I've been practicing 10 hours a day it's getting much easier to only see the piano in my chord progressions...

I just ordered one of your DVD's, and can't wait for it to arrive. Your video lessons are great, since I don't know how to play a hymn but the basic way. Could you do "Amazing Grace" in one of your future lessons? Also, how do you play an organ part on the keyboard (I own a inexpensive Casio). When I hear an organ part in a song? I have no idea of how to play what I hear. I sound like I'm playing to many notes. I have other DVD's but they don't cover that issue.
    Thanks!
